House Concert - Irish Traditional Music

House Concert - Visiting Irish fiddle player Enda Ó Catháin and Canberra uilleann piper Patrick Lyons will be performing in a house concert in the leafy Canberra suburb of Fraser on September 9 at 8pm. This will be a great opportunity to hear some very fine Irish traditional music in a intimate acoustic setting. Tickets $15, including supper. Limited seating, so bookings essential. There is also the possibility of a workshop with Enda if there is sufficient interest – could be either specifically on fiddle, or on Enda’s tunes and playing style which would also appeal to non-fiddlers. For enquiries or bookings please call Michael on 02 6259 2368 or 0422 007 387 (after 6:30pm weekdays, or on weekends, please). Enda, from County Kildare, was raised in a family with deep roots in Irish traditional music. His fine CD of solo, unaccompanied fiddle music entitled Ó Inné go Inniu was recorded at the National Library of Australia during an extended stay in Australia in 2001-02. Patrick hails from an Irish family in Sydney, and learned his pipering, much by osmosis, from players such as Geoff Wooff, Ian MacKenzie, and the late Declan Affley. Both players place much emphasis on the musical, cultural and historical threads which flow through the transmission of the Irish music tradition from each generation to the next.
