Welcome to Karaoke at the Irish Club!
There is an Etiquette to Karaoke to make your karaoke experience more enjoyable for everybody involved. You don’t need to be best singer – You just need to have the BEST time when you are here for the night! Our Hosts will use rotations that are fair and ensure the smooth running and enjoyment of the night.
Song Requests and Pecking order
· Maximum of 2 request slips at a time. You may submit further slips when you have been called for your second song
· Please use Song Books provided to find your song. The Host will assist you if you are having difficulty but this impacts on the Hosts attention to the current performer
· Please complete the song slip provided. Singers who turn in requests under different names in attempt to defeat the rules of rotation, will not be called to sing for the remainder of the evening
· The host will ensure a fair song rotation.
· Duets count as one turn for each singer
· New Singers will be filtered into current rotation.
· The KJ may run back to back requests at their discretion in the interest of good momentum.
On Standby
The host may announce a "standby singer" to be ready. Please be ready to sing when your name is called. The Host has your song ready and you may be called up sooner if the first singer has not arrived when called, or otherwise delayed.
If the standby singer performs first - the first singer will be called once more. If you are the first singer and you have returned to the room please let the Host know you are ready to sing when called.
Karaoke Hosts and their Domain
· Please don’t hassle the Host to insert songs out of turn, or continually ask when you are going to sing. This slows down the running of the Karaoke, and affects their attention to the current performer.
· If you are going to leave the venue and you have request slips up - please say goodbye! We would like to know you have a good time and we will remove your requests from the rotation to keep the night running smoothly.
· Please do not carry loud conversations with the Host or others next to the stage. This distracts the singer and the host from the performance.
· We are friendly, social butterflies so please do say hello, but limit your time in our work area. We can’t do our jobs properly if we are engaged in personal chat with others. We want to give our singers the BEST we can give them!
· We are here for the Irish Club and strive to cater as much as possible for the patrons that come early and stay late. We work hard to ensure fair rotations that will accommodate our ‘Regulars’, and new singers. We also aim to please groups celebrating special occasions. Please don't feel cheated if someone has gotten up a couple of times more than another. Chances are that these singers have probably been here for a good portion of the night and come out with specific intention to patronise the club.
Unfortunately if you arrive half and hour before the club closes, chances are that you will not get chance to sing!
Singing on Stage
· No drinks on stage or Dance Floor. Our equipment is expensive and easily damaged by drink spillage. You may be asked to leave by security.
· Hold mic close to your mouth. It is designed to cut out room noise and feedback.
· Your foldback sound is above your head in the ceiling. Let host know if you prefer more music or more You, or more or less volume. (Don’t just yell ‘turn it up’) Singers have personal preferences and we are happy to accommodate – especially if you can let us know early on in the song!
· If the song starts in a key that is difficult - ask us to raise or lower the key - but don't wait until the middle of the song to do it!
· Do not 'POP', scream, or swing the microphones…and stay on the stage.
· Drunken or offensive behaviour on stage or in the audience will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave the stage or even the premise immediately if your behaviour is deemed disorderly.
Putting friends up - If your friends don't want to sing please don't submit a slip for them. This slows down the night when the host calls them up with a song cued up - and has to change at the last second.
Own Music: Sorry, the Irish Club management only allow us to play discs that have been purchased by the Irish Club. The only exception to this rule is during the Karaoke World Championships where competitors may bring their own discs. Strict guidelines apply to this and contestants must check out the complete list of rules at the KWC website.
If we don't have a song you would like to sing - please let us know - we may include it on our next CD order!
